I have a bit of catching up to do as, for one reason or another, I haven't been logging birding or gaming lately. The following few entries might be a bit briefer than usual as a result and this one has got itself out of chronological order and should come before "Excused Games" and "Dragons and More Dragons"
Thursday games on 1st March may have turned out to be a bit of a turning point for the group, as it has provoked some discussion of what to do when we are six players (because many of our games only stretch to four or five) and some thoughts about what sorts of games we would like to see tabled in the future.
I don't propose to go into detail but some of us (myself included) seemed a bit unfocused and unhappy on the night. It's a great group though and I think myself lucky to be part of it and look forward to future sessions.
The games we essayed on this slightly less fun Thursday were Drachen Wurf and Condottiere. On reflection, neither seemed deserving of the lack of attention I was giving them and I would be happy to play either again. Both were well taught too. I suspect however that I was "coming down with something" as I didn't feel quite right for some days and by Saturday was feeling distinctly feverish. I don't remember a great deal about how I did in the dice game (which I wanted to translate as Dragon Dice but is apparently Dragon Throw) but I'm always happy to have specialist dice with which to play.
Condottiere, however, I do remember because, despite mrwendell's very clear teaching of the game, I played it abysmally which resulted in me having considerable periods with no cards and therefore being unable to participate.
During this game an iPad (which I lust after) found its way onto the table but despite appearances I was not completely against this idea. It was displaying a player aid and perhaps signalling a future of more integration of pasteboard and circuit-board. In fact, much as I love playing with bits of wood, cardboard etc., I have to admit I'm intrigued with what could be done with, for example, touch-screen boards or interactive player aids.
